RESPONSIBLE PERSON

Who is the responsible person?

Usually when it comes to ensuring the safety of staff, customers and anybody visiting your premises, it is the Facilities Manager or Health & Safety Manager who is considered to be the "responsible person" because they will ensure everything is done correctly and on time and a big part of their role and responsibility is to prevent accidents or negligence that could result in civil action like liability.

COMPETENT PERSON

Who is the competent person?

This is where we come into the picture. The competent person is a BAFE Qualified Technician or Engineer who will carry out your fire extinguisher commissioning to BS5306 and we are also fully insured and have to take Our role and responsibilities seriously too. Our Technicians / Engineers have to complete a servicing label and written report at the end of their duties and we have to ensure all processes are completed fully.

Most businesses contract a third party expert in fire safety like us to avoid issues arising with employees acts and omissions that could bring them into disrepute or jeopardise the company reputation.

Fire Extinguisher Servicing is a legal requirement of the regulatory reform order (2005) to ensure your business premises have fire fighting equipment that is serviced every year or 5 years depending on the maintenance you implement at your premises to maximize the safety of staff, customers, contractors and visitors.

Why you should use an expert in fire safety who is a BAFE Qualified fire extinguisher engineer?

Employing your own fire maintenance employees can increase the risk of negligence when it comes to ensuring everything is completed correctly and professionally maintained. This could also put your business at risk of liability if your employee become complacent or if they put lives at risk with their acts and omissions by cutting corners.

It is highly recommended to instruct a BAFE Qualified expert in fire safety to conduct inspections of your fire fighting equipment and to provide a full service to comply with British Standards BS5306

WHEN YOU THINK OF FIRE EXTINGUISHER SERVICING, THINK ABOUT YOUR CAR MOT !!

During your annual servicing and maintenance commissioning, you should be mindful that parts may need to be replaced.

It is rare and unlikely during annual servicing but not impossible as parts do suffer general wear and tear.

Frontline Operations offer low pricing for annual servicing but ideally we would recommend Our services via contract which costs a small amount more but this option means all your parts will be covered at no extra cost and you won't be left with a shocking bill.

Booking a service without contract is still a very low and more than reasonable price but if we identify parts that need to be replaced to ensure maximum safety for your staff and premises, this would mean you have to pay for the parts on top of your servicing inspection.

There are costs involved at Our end as your servicing and maintenance technician and believe it or not, some customers think the servicing fee includes replacement parts. This would be impossible and mean that we would be paying for your parts.

There are different levels of servicing you need to be aware of and we are told that some fire safety technicians tell their clients they only need to service every 3 years. This is not true and unsafe practice for your fire extinguisher inspector to cut corners like this. All fire extinguishers SHOULD be serviced atleast Once a year to comply with British Standards. BS5306 and BS EN3 are the reference numbers you should look over to ensure compliance.

BASIC SERVICING - ONCE PER YEAR (REPLACE PARTS IF IDENTIFIED)

EXTENDED SERVICING - EVERY 5 YEARS (REPLACE PARTS AND CONTENTS)

OVERHAUL SERVICE - 10 YEARS (CO2 EXTINGUISHERS)

Please refer to the below table for guidance as this will help you to know when to book us.

Does your business require a need for trained fire marshals / fire wardens?

Frontline Operations are experts in the safety & protection industry and we deliver fire safety knowledge to delegates to enable them to remain calm, focused and confident to deal with emergency situations.

Our learners leave with an understanding to pass the assessment test paper on the class of fire and the colour coded fire extinguishers that are suitable for each type of fire classification.

Fire marshal / fire warden training should be refreshed every 3 years to keep your staff skills up to date and because legislation can change over time. Anybody seeing a fire should smash the break-glass to sound the fire alarm because this is not only the responsibility of a fire marshal or warden.

There are other risk factors we need to be aware of when it comes to knowing when your business premises carry out a fire drill test and also the risk of potential burglar or terrorists who may be testing your evacuation response times.

The three elements of a fire are shown below in the fire triangle and they are "Heat, Oxygen and Fuel". If you remove One of these elements the fire will usually be extinguished for the following reasons.

Heat, a minimum temperature will ignite the fuel source.

Oxygen is what keeps the flames going. The more oxygen allows a fire to spread quickly.

Fuel does not just mean liquids like petrol, alcohol etc it means anything that can burn including paper, wood, metals, liquids, gases, oil etc
